Gages
What is meant by gages?
This is inspection tools of rigid design without a scale which used to check the dimension of manufactured parts.
-This is simple for use.
-To check the job in less time.-It control the dimension of product within the prescribed limitations.-By gages we check distance, Flatness, parallelism, perpendicularity Angularity, concentricity, surface, texture.
-It should not give proper value.
-It only compares the component with standard dimension.
-For measure dimension are compared with the standard specified dimension to decide whether the components are acceptable of not.
-At the time of mass production where the large numbers of similar component are produced to measure the dimension of each part will be time consuming & costly process. For that the gages check conformance of the part with tolerance specification.
-They also check the form & relative position of the surface of the parts.
-Gages are easy to employ & can be used many cases by unskilled operators.
A wide variety of gages are available to visually inspect and gage parts. A few of the basic types commonly used in manufacturing Industries.
Plug gages usually consist of two members: the go end and the no-go end. Three types of plug gages: 1.Single end2.Double end3.Progressive
Ring gages are fixed gages usually used in pairs of go and no-go members. They are available in manysizes and lapped to close tolerance on the inside diameter. Ring gages are often used to gage external threads and splines.
Snap gages are fixed gages with internal measuring surfaces for callipering diameters, lengths, thicknesses and widths.
Screw-pitch gages are used to determine the pitch of a screw by placement on the threaded portion.
On basis of accuracy.A) Shop gages: (with ware all allowance) for shop purpose. B)Inspection gages: (113 were allowance) for inspection purpose.C)Reference gages: (more accurate) calibration purpose.
